CIEE’s Summer Intensive Research in Coral Reef Ecology program is a hands-on research program. You will investigate important questions in the field of coral reef ecology in Bonaire National Marine Park. Expert instructors will help you become a certified scientific diver with the American Academy of Underwater Sciences. The courses offered ensure that you will gain competencies in a wide range of coral reef research skills.

Selection for the program is based on a review of your written application, recommendation, transcript(s), and completion of the interview process. Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by CIEE.
IMPORTANT: Application for a CIEE program involves two parts:
- Completion of the GEO application process.
- Completion of the CIEE application process.
Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the CIEE deadline. An application fee is due at the time of application and is non-refundable under any circumstances.
- 2 semesters of college-level biology required. Nationally recognized SCUBA certification or Open Water Referral. One upper-level coursework in ecology, botany, and/or zoology recommended.

If your program has a Priority Deadline, complete all pre-decision application materials by this date to receive a $100 credit toward your program fee. Please note, students participating in multiple summer programs are only eligible to receive the $100 credit once.
Note: this $100 discount does not apply to priority deadlines for SIT programs.
