SIT semester programs include the following components: one-week orientation, intensive language study, homestay (in urban and rural areas), thematic seminar, field methods seminar, independent study project (last month of program), and program evaluation.
In this program you will gain firsthand knowledge about diverse social movements and the struggle for human rights in Argentina, a nation renowned for heroic efforts against impunity, economic disenfranchisement, and social exclusion. This struggle encompasses historical events including the diverse immigrant organization of the late 1800s, Peron’s populist movement, and the late twentieth-century military regime in which tens of thousands lost their lives. Since the country’s recent economic crisis, a variety of social movements have worked toward creating new means of achieving economic advancement along with social justice.
The vibrant capital city of Buenos Aires, home to many Argentine activist groups and human rights organizations, serves as program headquarters. In this program you will meet with social activists, local scholars, indigenous leaders, rural organizers, environmental advocates, female activists, and community muralists.From Buesos Aires you will travel throughout the nation, visiting social activists, local scholars, indigenous leaders, environmental advocates, rural organizers, and others who share their struggles, hopes, and dreams for their community, nation, and world.

SIT Study Abroad has rolling admission, which means that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis between the opening and closing dates of the review process. Applications must be complete to be reviewed for admission. Since many programs fill long before the published closing dates, you are strongly advised to apply by the above priority deadline.
Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by SIT. The SIT admissions committee strives to select students who will be the best possible match for the program. You should submit strong academic references and demonstrate a consistent academic record, clear motivation to study abroad, solid reasoning for their program choice, and an understanding of the program model.
IMPORTANT: Application for a SIT program involves two parts. Both parts of the application are due by the GEO application deadline.
- Completion of the GEO application process.
- Completion of the SIT application process.
Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the SIT deadline. An application fee is due at the time of application and is non-refundable under any circumstances.
- 1.5 years of recent college-level Spanish or the equivalent and the ability to follow coursework in Spanish, as assessed by SIT.
- Previous college-level coursework and/or other significant preparation in social work, political economy, development studies, or Latin American studies, as assessed by SIT.

If your program has a Priority Deadline, complete all pre-decision application materials by this date to receive a $100 credit toward your program fee. Please note, students participating in multiple summer programs are only eligible to receive the $100 credit once.
