SIT semester programs include the following components: one-week orientation, intensive language study, homestay (in urban and rural areas), thematic seminar, field methods seminar, independent study project (last month of program), and program evaluation.
This program provides you with an exciting opportunity to enhance your professional reporting skills under the supervision of veteran journalists. You will engage in ongoing reporting assignments, team reporting, and peer editing to create the flavor of a working newsroom. Instruction will accommodate work in students’ preferred media format – print, video, audio, photography, and/or multimedia.
The focus of the program will be on gathering, analyzing, and crafting news stories. Students from a variety of majors are encouraged to apply. Excellent writing ability and a strong interest in journalism are essential.
The program is being run in partnership with Round Earth Media, one of the most successful and highly respected news organizations in media today – and one with vast experience mentoring young, independent reporters. You will receive hands-on mentorship from Round Earth Media reporters and also engage with Moroccan journalists.
Your stories—produced during the program’s Independent Study period—will be considered for publication (print, broadcast, or online) under your byline by Round Earth Media, in one of the many news outlets with which it has a relationship worldwide. If you have intermediate high or advanced French or Arabic, you may be able to submit your stories to Moroccan media outlets in the target language.

SIT Study Abroad has rolling admission, which means that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis between the opening and closing dates of the review process. Applications must be complete to be reviewed for admission. Since many programs fill long before the published closing dates, you are strongly advised to apply by the above priority deadline.
Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by SIT. The SIT admissions committee strives to select students who will be the best possible match for the program. You should submit strong academic references and demonstrate a consistent academic record, clear motivation to study abroad, solid reasoning for their program choice, and an understanding of the program model.
IMPORTANT: Application for a SIT program involves two parts. Both parts of the application are due by the GEO application deadline.

- Completion of the SIT application process.
Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the SIT deadline. An application fee is due at the time of application and is non-refundable under any circumstances.
- Previous college-level coursework in writing, journalism, communications, and/or media studies, or other related fields required.
- Strong writing skills and an interest in journalism are essential.
- A writing sample may be required as part of the admissions process.

If your program has a Priority Deadline, complete all pre-decision application materials by this date to receive a $100 credit toward your program fee. Please note, students participating in multiple summer programs are only eligible to receive the $100 credit once.
