CIEE: Business, Engineering, Arts, and Sciences in Sharjah

Program Overview

The Business, Engineering, Arts, and Sciences program at the CIEE Study Center at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is designed to help you improve your Arabic language skills, develop an understanding of the Gulf region and its role in the Arab World and global economy, and learn firsthand about the daily intersection of traditional values and modern realities. Through direct matriculation in Arabic language and area studies courses at the American University of Sharjah, and innovative program activities and excursions, you will become immersed in the cultural and social life of the University and local community.

You will be required to take an Arabic language course, one elective with a Gulf or Middle Eastern focus, and three additional elective courses.

The program includes a series of field trips, site visits, and cultural events. The aim of each trip, visit, and event is to enhance your understanding and appreciation of life and society in the United Arab Emirates. Possible excursions include day trips to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, an overnight excursion to Al-Ain, and activities such as desert safaris, guest lectures, and visits to local museums, galleries, and traditional souks.
