The George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program, named to honor former US Senator George Mitchell's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service.
GEO is passionate about study abroad and hopes that every student is able to participate in a life-changing experience abroad. With this in mind, GEO offers the Map Your Future Scholarship to freshmen that can be used for a study abroad program during your college career. A number of $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. These scholarship funds can be used for an eligible study abroad program any term from summer 2018 to summer 2021.
This scholarship provides up to $5,000 for undergraduates to pursue study abroad and/or international internships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens (permanent residents are not eligible) and must be receiving (or provide proof that they will receive) a Federal Pell Grant. The Gilman seeks to fund students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad and those who choose non-traditional study abroad destinations. Additional funds (up to $3,000) may be awarded to students studying critical need languages.
Note: Beginning with the Summer 2017 scholarship cycle, UO students will apply for the GEO Ambassador Scholarship through the General Study Abroad Scholarships application.
