Program Overview

East China Normal University (ECNU) was established in 1951, and is one of China’s most highly-ranked and prestigious universities. ECNU welcomes many international students to its campus every year, and its programs offer students an opportunity to experience university life in China in a unique and personal way. Academic Details

Students choose either (a) 3 content courses (taught in English) + 1 language course or (b) 4 content courses.  Different levels of language classes from beginning to advanced will be offered according to students’ placement test results.  Content courses vary by semester and are drawn from a variety of fields including Business, Sociology, Literature, Political Science, Economics, etc.

The suggested credit for each content class is 3 semester credits or 5 quarter credits. The suggested credit for the Intensive Chinese course is 6 semester credits or 9 quarter credits. Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.

For a list of class offerings, please visit the ECNU Global China Program website.

For students considering the Academic Year program: You are welcome to study at ECNU for the full year. However, as the courses each semester generally are the same, you may find that there are less courses to choose from in the second semester. Please keep this in mind when applying for the Academic Year option at ECNU.
