Program Overview
Immerse yourself in a landscape of museum collections, heritage sites, and performing arts during an academic quarter in London. This program will provide countless opportunities for students to participate in interdisciplinary learning that further their knowledge of Public Policy, Management, Culture, and Nonprofits as practice in Central London and the United Kingdom.
Students will take classes in International Public Policy and International Nonprofit Management taught by University of Oregon Professor Dyana Mason in addition to elective course offerings at the GEO London Centre. All courses are designed in conjunction with the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management and will satisfy major/minor along with other interdisciplinary options making it a great opportunity for students studying Political Science, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, and Global Studies.
This intensive program offers an internship option as well. Living in a fast-paced city will require you to balance your academic, work, and personal responsibilities while allowing you to make progress towards your educational, professional, and personal goals by experiencing all that London has to offer.
Note: if you participate in an internship, you must apply for a Visa to the UK. This will require applying to UKVI for a student visa, going to a biometric appointment at a USCIS office (Portland has the only one in Oregon), and then sending your passport to New York to get the visa pasted in.

Academic Details
You will enroll in two to four courses. All students will take:
- International Public Policy (4-credits, 300-level, PPPM major/minor and NPA minor satisfying, also satisfies core education SSC or GP)
- International Nonprofit Management (4-credits, 300-level, PPPM major/minor and NPA minor satisfying)
In addition, students will have the option to enroll in elective courses taught by UK faculty:
- Contemporary Britain in a Global Context (4-credits, 300-level Global Studies elective)
- Global, Legal, and Social Environment of Business (4-credits, 300-level Business Administration elective)

London internships are available in many fields, such as the Arts, Politics, NGOs, Education and more! Students participating in an internship can expect the following support during their program:

Due to the competitive nature of internships, it is recommended to work with a study abroad and/or career center advisor to review your resume and prepare for an interview in advance. Some examples of past placements have included:
- Politics: Members of Parliament in Westminster, NGOs, campaigning, research, media
- NGOs and Charities: International and domestic focus, human rights, environmental, marginalised populations (homeless, refugee women, children/youth, former prisoners)
- Health Services: Policy, health clinics, children’s care, medical device sales
- Museums and Galleries: History, art, music, archives

Faculty and Staff
Dyana Mason is an Assistant Professor of Planning, Public Policy and Management at the University of Oregon, where she teaches primarily in the Master of Nonprofit Management and Master of Public Administration programs. Her research interests include nonprofit management and governance, the organization and formation of interest/advocacy organizations, the political economy of the nonprofit sector, charitable giving and experimental research on collective action and fundraising activities. During the 2014-2015 academic year, she was also selected as Teacher of the Year by the students of the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management.
Professor Mason previously led the Nongovernmental Organizations of Southeast Asia program in summer 2016, and led a program on Nonprofits and Social Change in Rosario, Argentina in summer 2018.
Housing Description
Students will be living in shared housing in Central London. Students will be housed in twin rooms in either apartments or studios with shared living spaces. The housing will be conveniently located in either Zone 2 or Zone 3 in London. Students will be within walking distance of the Tube network, local supermarkets, restaurants and cafes.
The housing will be fully furnished and the cooking spaces will be fully equipped with utensils, plates, glasses and cookware. All apartments have Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, linens and 24/7 emergency support.
Your program application will have a housing questionnaire to gather information and assist with roommate assignments. Please note that students may share an apartment with students of a different gender.
