Connect with GEO

Meet the IR Team

In addition to the Institutional Relations team, with whom our campus partners work closely, a GEO institutional affiliation provides access to our global education program coordinators, student services staff, as well as a dedicated health, safety and risk manager. No matter your level of commitment, rest assured that every GEO program benefits from the support of more than 17 professional staff with years of experience in global education. GEO Open Houses

GEO Open Houses take place at our centers abroad. Plans for a 2021 Open House are currently suspended due to the pandemic. When they do take place, site visit participants explore the host city, meet GEO instructional staff and on-site directors, tour GEO facilities, observe ongoing academic programs, and learn about unique opportunities for customized programming at each location. Lodging, most meals, transfers, and all activities are covered in this familiarization tour.

Siena, Italy
(POSTPONED)

For more information, visit the Siena Center webpage or contact Lisa Calevi at lar@uoregon.edu.

The city of Siena is a UNESCO world heritage site located in Tuscany just an hour south of Florence. The GEO Center in Siena is located in the 19th century Palazzo Bargagli, within the medieval city walls in the Contrada dell’Istrice (the Porcupine district). Our Center is a short walk to the Piazza del Campo where the historic Palio horse race is run twice each summer.

Upcoming highlights of the 2022 Open House:

  • Take a special tour of the Porcupine contrada museum
  • View student and faculty apartments with GEO Housing Coordinator
  • Take in a view of the surrounding hill towns from the top of the Cathedral
  • Visit internship and service-learning sites, including a local vineyard
  • Enjoy a cooking class followed by dinner
  • Tour and sit in on classes at the GEO Siena Center

“It’s a pleasure to lead a program based at the GEO Center and introduce students to Siena’s rich history and culture using the city itself as both a subject and an inspiration. The Siena Site Director, Silvia Minucci, makes it so easy to connect student interests with excursions and opportunities throughout Italy, helping me expand young artists’ ideas about what art has been in the past and what it and can be in the future.”

“The GEO Open House in which I participated was phenomenally organized; I felt that I walked away with a strong sense of the kind of partner GEO is and what potential there could be for my institution. Apart from providing wonderful logistical oversight, the GEO team ensured that our itinerary had the perfect balance of cultural and academic visits and meetings. They even went beyond by organizing some individual meetings that aligned with our institution’s priorities. I am eager to collaborate in the future, having developed a handful of actionable ideas during the visit.”
