Program Overview

The CIEE Study Center in Santiago has a dual focus that enables you to achieve advanced Spanish language skills while studying various aspects of the Hispanic Caribbean Basin area. The Liberal Arts in Santiago program requires you to have  two years of college-level Spanish with at least a 3.00 GPA.

You must enroll in a Spanish language course, the CIEE core course Contemporary Dominican Republic: Political and Socioeconomic Processes, and three or more elective courses.

According to the results of an on-site proficiency examination at the beginning of the program, you will be placed into one of three levels, which determine the required language course and electives you may take. If you are planning to stay for an academic, you must continue your language study during your second semester on-site.

Application process

If you are interested in applying to a CIEE program, we strongly advise you to meet with an advisor prior to applying.

IMPORTANT: Application for a CIEE program involves two parts:

  1. Completion of the GEO application process.
  2. Completion of the CIEE application process.
