NOTE: This program is only open to Non-UO students.
This program is ideal if you are looking to be immersed in German language and culture for one month. You will enroll directly in the Freie Universität Berlin (FUBiS), a leading research institution in Germany. You can opt to take one content course in English or a German language course. Field trips to museums, memorials and cultural and political institutions are integral components of all classes. In some courses, you have the unique opportunity to attend specially organized and exclusive round-table discussions with decision makers, diplomats and experts in their field of study.
Develop your intercultural communication skills as a part of the international community of students from more than 50 countries that attend FUBiS every year. Further these skills by living with a Berlin family in a homestay arranged by FUBiS.
This program is ONLY open to NON-UO students as the program dates overlap with Winter Term.
Enroll in either a semi-intensive German course for 72 contact hours or a subject course taught in English for 48 contact hours.
All courses offered in Berlin are recognized and approved for academic credit by various GEO partner institutions. Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with your home university's study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.
Enroll with German and other international students in this three-week J-term program. Every year FUBiS offers more than 45 courses, both content and German language classes. These courses are held mostly in English (aside from the German language classes) by distinguished German and international faculty. Content classes are kept small, with the number remaining below 18 students. Language courses do not exceed 15 students. Not all courses listed are offered every term. Course offerings are subject to change depending on enrollment and availability.
The FUBiS staff is a dedicated team, motivated to organize this program for international students. FUBiS carefully selects its teaching faculty, and instructors must have demonstrated outstanding competence and experience in their particular discipline.
Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.
UO students, please refer to the UO Course Equivalency Process and the UO Office of the Registrar Course Equivalency Database.
In this program, you will live with a homestay family in Berlin. The homestays vary from relatively small, centrally located apartments to larger private homes outside of central Berlin. Host families are carefully screened and provide good, affordable accommodation offering you the opportunity to develop your independence and language proficiency by participating in family, community, cultural, and recreational activities. Homestays include daily breakfast and one additional meal per day. Many students cherish the homestay experience as one of the most rewarding aspects of the Berlin program and remain lifelong friends with their host families.
