Program Overview

Founded in the 18th Century, students will get to experience academic life on the St. Petersburg State University campus in the School of Political Science. With this summer program, no prior Russian language experience is required. Course offerings typically include Russian culture, business, politics, art and architecture, and Russian language.

Students will have the opportunity to engage in volunteering and to give back to the community through various projects with local organizations. CIEE also organizes weekly events with Russian peers. CIEE Russian Buddies are an endless source of support, and eager to help and assist students in integrating into life in St. Petersburg.

There are also excursions that students can participate in, such as visits to the Hermitage, the Peter and Paul Fortress, and the Russian Museum.

Application process

CIEE offers three different summer sessions. UO students can choose from either Summer Session II, Summer Session III, or both Summer Sessions II and III. Summer Session I is not open to UO students, as it overlaps with the end of spring term. UO students looking for a longer summer study abroad program are able to combine the last two sessions offered by CIEE. Consult with your GEO Study Abroad Advisor before starting an application.

If you are interested in applying to a CIEE program, we strongly advise you to meet with an advisor prior to applying.

Selection for the program is based on a review of your written application, recommendation, transcript(s), and completion of the interview process. Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by CIEE.

IMPORTANT: Application for a CIEE program involves two parts:

  • Completion of the GEO application process.
  • Completion of the CIEE application process.

Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the CIEE deadline. An application fee is due at the time of application and is non-refundable under any circumstances.
