A Chance to Experience the Korean 빨리 빨리 Life

What a ride, the life of an individual who lives in South Korea is very intense. As a Latina and an Americana I am astonished at the type of lifestyle you live in this country, it is so hard and admirable. My time abroad has been full of lessons and experiences that I am so grateful to be learning. South Korea is, I would say 90% how I expected it to be before arriving, and the opportunity to come and sit among locals, walk through their day to day streets and shop at their favorite places is something amazing to be able to experience.

Arriving in South Korea

Hola! Hello! Bonjour! 아녕아세요!! My name is Julia Jazmin Hernandez-Espinoza and I am Latina-Americana. A born and raised Oregonian but definitely not a natural hiker! Currently at the University of Oregon, I am in my fourth year and this fall term I am studying abroad at Korea University which is a beloved private college in South Korea. Exploring life outside of a small city and being a study abroad student has been a life-long dream that I constantly carried within my goals.

Building Resilience and Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Hello! My name is Connor and I identify as a queer first generational non-traditional student studying Spanish at the University of Oregon. In relation to my identities, I found that studying abroad here in Oviedo was a bit of a relief as Spain overall tends to be more inclusive to queer people. Keep in mind, however, that while Oviedo is considered a city, the overall feel to it is more of a small town with not a lot of variation in terms of the different kinds of people. Being an American will put you more outside of the norm than being queer.
