Program Overview

This program is only open to business majors and minors.

The Copenhagen Business School Summer University is a six-week summer program. The Copenhagen Business School (CBS) program provides you with the opportunity to enroll in courses such as business administration, entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing, operations, and organization. In addition, CBS will arrange cultural and social programs for students to get to know one another and become more familiar with Danish culture. This may include guided city tours of Copenhagen, Danish folk-dancing, comedy night, and a weekend trip around Denmark.

CBS is a modern global business training center with state-of-the-art facilities at three urban campuses and an outstanding faculty with considerable business experience. CBS emphasizes group work that is meant to simulate real-world corporate projects, often in conjunction with multinational businesses that have offices in Copenhagen. Throughout the year, CBS hosts a variety of corporate visitors and "talent scouts" who hold presentations about their companies and recruit future employees from the CBS student population.

This is a program in which you will directly enroll in courses at CBS alongside local Danish students and international students. These programs differ from other study abroad options and do not necessarily include significant on-site student support services, such as academic advising, health & counselling services, planned excursions or social events.  Students most comfortable and successful in these types of programs typically have high levels of self-reliance, resourcefulness, and willingness to adapt to unfamiliar teaching styles and living arrangements.

Academic Details

Course Availability:

Please review the course offerings for students on CBS’s website. You may need to use the previous year’s course list as a guide for what might be available until CBS updates their course list for the current year.

You need to be flexible with choosing courses and have multiple back-up courses in case you do not get into your top choices. You are responsible for ensuring you meet any pre-requisites for courses at Copenhagen Business School.

If you are a graduate student, you can also take courses in advertising, entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility, and digital business.

Note: It is imperative that you discuss your plan of study and the applicability of CBS courses toward your UO degree carefully with your academic adviser before applying.

Credits:

You will take two 6-week courses at CBS.  Each 6-week course is worth approximately 6 UO quarter credits, for a total of 12 UO quarter credits.

CBS uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which is a workload-based system for measuring and comparing study results. Each 6-week course is worth 7.5 ECTS credits - the workload is estimated to 206 student work hours per course. ECTS credits are transferred to the UO at the rate of 1 ECTS = 0.75 UO quarter credits.

Course Equivalencies

UO students: please refer to the UO Course Equivalency Process and the UO Office of the Registrar Course Equivalency Database.

Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.

Additional Requirements

3.25 GPA or above is required for graduate students

Housing Description

Housing in Copenhagen is very difficult to find and can be expensive. The CBS housing department has access to six student residences or dorms. You can apply for these using the CBS Housing online application process:

  • An email containing a link to the application and allocation process will be sent to your CBS email address (which you will set up after you've been accepted into their program).
  • The date on which the link will be sent will be published on CBS' accommodation page 3-4 weeks beforehand. No other notification will be given.

It is also important to note that the application will open at 12:00 PM Danish time. This means that it will open at 3:00 AM PST

  • You will be expected to start the application at this time if you want to get housing.
  • It would also benefit you to complete the application as quickly as you can once you've begun, as spots do fill up very quickly.

The application process is on a first come, first served basis, so do not be disappointed if you do not get your first priority. Once CBS gives students their housing offer via the online application, students will need to accept the offer within 48 hours. To do so, students will need to sign the offer sheet, upload it to the application, and then follow the instructions on how to make initial payments (often done by wire transfer to a bank account).

Students that are unable to get CBS housing may be assisted with finding private housing if they submit a private housing application. The sooner this private housing application is submitted, the sooner CBS will be able to help you to find housing. Depending on when you submit your private housing application, it could take anywhere from 1-3 months for CBS to help you find housing, if not longer.

Private housing can vary. Typical landlords can include:

  • CBS students studying abroad outside at the same time;
  • People between 50-60 who live in a big house with older children;
  • People between 40-50 with small children who want an international influence.
