Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world. Each year 32 young students from the United States are selected as Rhodes Scholars, through a decentralized process representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. Applicants from more than 320 American colleges and universities have been selected as Rhodes Scholars.
The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures is pleased to offer about ten Japanese America Friendship Fund Scholarships to students who are planning to study or intern in Japan during any academic term in the school year or summer.
This scholarship supports undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Chinese and accepted to a University of Oregon-sponsored study abroad program in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan. Scholarship amounts can range from $1,000-$2,000.
The scholarship may be used to assist students with all standard educational expenses including tuition, fees, books, miscellaneous supplies, room and board, and travel associated with the study abroad experience.
The African Studies Program awards multiple scholarships of $250-$500 to students participating in faculty-led summer study abroad programs in Africa. For summer 2018, the scholarship is applicable to these programs: Media in Ghana; Global Health, Development, and Service Learning in Accra; and Music, Drumming, and Dance in Ghana.
In memory of Jack Watson, former UO Department of Theatre Arts faculty leader for the London Theatre Program across sixteen years, this scholarship fund is designated to support students hoping to participate in the London program. Recipients must be Theatre Arts majors or minors, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The Department of German and Scandinavian strongly encourages students pursuing a major or minor in German Language, Literature, and Culture, German Studies, and Scandinavian Studies to participate in a study-abroad program.
Beth Maveety Study Abroad Scholarship for Germany: An annual award of $1,000 is made available for outstanding students majoring in German, preferably those intending to teach German, to study abroad in Germany. Candidates are nominated by the faculty.
The UO College of Arts and Sciences offers numerous undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships for continuing students only. Many of these scholarships may be applied to your study abroad program costs. The Hildegard Kurz Foreign Language Scholarship offers grants of $1,000 – $3,000 for students studying language abroad.
Requirements:
The UO Department of Global Studies offers Judy Fosdick Oliphant Scholarships to support undergraduate majors fulfilling the international experience requirement for the Global Studies major. Every fall, winter and spring terms, multiple Oliphant Scholarships will be awarded.
