International Student Programs for Immersive Language Learning
We believe communication is the goal of language learning. The best way to reach this goal is to provide students with real-life experiences using a second language in context through experiential learning, cultural exchange, and internship placements.
Our Programs
We offer two types of programs for immersive language learning programs for international students to visit the University of Oregon via the Oregon Experience Program (OEP) and the Oregon International Internship Program (OIIP).Programs were developed with evidence-based language practice by the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS). CASLS is one of sixteen National Foreign Language Resource Centers that work to increase the capacity for language education. incorporate best practices in pedagogy, the latest in second language acquisition research, and classroom technology.Contact us for more information about dates and costs.
Oregon Experience Program (OEP)
Oregon Experience Program (OEP) The Oregon Experience Program (OEP) is a U.S. study abroad program that offers immersive language learning for international English learners. All English levels are welcome, and no student visa is necessary. Students explore U.S. university life and learn about topics related to health and sustainability. They connect with the people and culture of Oregon while deepening their English language skills. OEP offers customizable options during spring break or summer term.

Oregon International Internship Program (OIIP)
Through the Oregon International Internship Program (OIIP), university students combine English language and culture learning with an internship. Students enroll in language or academic courses and complete internships in K-12 classrooms in the Eugene area. Students to participate in the U.S. educational system, expand their English skills, and learn from experienced teachers while introducing their home cultures to local classrooms.

Program Outcomes
CASLS student program participants will:
- Develop intercultural connections
- Explore the beauty of Oregon’s natural environment

- Explore global issues through experiential learning or internships
- Receive hands-on experience through service learning or internships
- Reflect on their cross-cultural learning with the support of dedicated and experienced staff from the Center for Applied Second Language Studies
