Eligibility

The following steps may be completed in any order

Complete a language course with the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages or any UO language course

Complete a GlobalWorks internship or internship with an international or inter-cultural focus.

Study abroad with Global Education Oregon (GEO)

Once you have completed the three requirements, submit the Seal of Global Engagement verification form.

These are examples of the pathway you can take to achieve the Seal of Global Engagement. We understand that not everyone follows the same path. If you are interested in learning more about the seal, contact the Intercultural Experience Coordinator to start your journey.

Note:

*Students may complete a language class, study abroad, and participate in a global internship in any order.

*Students may mix and match languages and destinations (ie. Study Italian, study abroad in Spain and do internship in Vietnam)

  • Does the Seal of Global Engagement cost money?
    • No. Eligible students can receive the seal of Global Engagement at no additional cost.
  • What if I test out of a language?
    • To receive the seal, students must complete a language course at the University of Oregon. Browse languages offered by the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages.
  • Is this opportunity available to international students?
    • Yes, international students are encouraged to apply.
  • Do I have to study and intern abroad in the same country?
    • No. The internship and study abroad requirements can be completed in any country of your choosing. You must complete a language course at the University of Oregon Eugene campus (or online) to fulfill the language requirement.
  • Do I have to intern abroad, or can I intern domestically?
  • What if my pathway is not listed?
    • While your program may fulfill the study abroad requirement for the Seal, you will need to take a language course at the University of Oregon Eugene campus to fulfill the language requirement.
  • Are scholarships available?
    • Yes, there are scholarships available for study abroad and internship experiences. Visit the GEO Scholarships site to learn more about funding opportunities for study abroad. The College of Arts and Sciences offers scholarships for experiential learning. Learn more by visiting the CAS Experiential Learning site.
  • What if I study a language while abroad?
    • Studying a language while abroad will not fulfill the language requirement for the Seal. You must take a language course at the University of Oregon Eugene campus (or online). However, studying a language abroad through GEO will fulfill the study abroad requirement.
  • I had an internship as part of my GEO study abroad program. Does this count for both the studying and interning abroad requirements?
