The Arlene Schnitzer Study Abroad Scholarship is an award of up to $5,000 (average award will be approximately $3,000) available to UO majors in the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages who plan to participate in a GEO-sponsored study abroad program or internship. This scholarship encourages students to pursue language learning and global engagement by studying abroad and becoming a major in the Schnitzer School. Selection is based on financial need, academic merit, and a well-completed scholarship application.
Students can apply for the Arlene Schnitzer Study Abroad Scholarship as early as their first term at the UO, and the funds can be used at any time during their college career at the UO. Students do not need to be declared majors by the application deadline, but recipients will need to be majors in the Schnitzer School by the time they go abroad on their program or internship. Eligibility Requirements
- 2.50 cumulative GPA
- Degree-seeking UO undergraduate students
- Applicants should have a major in the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages; the major must be declared by the time the student participates in a credit-bearing GEO study abroad program or internship. It is expected that recipients of the scholarship will go on to complete their UO degree with a major from the Schnitzer School. Students who only have a minor in the Schnitzer School are not eligible.
- Students with financial need are encouraged to apply. Financial need is based on FAFSA, ORSAA; international students complete the ISSS Financial Resources Form. Applicants are also invited to complete an optional financial need statement.
- Award can be used for any credit-bearing GEO study abroad program or internship; students are highly encouraged to participate in programs outside of Western Europe or in Schnitzer School–affiliated programs. View a list of affiliated programs.
