The Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship is being offered by the U.S.-Japan Council, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit that contributes to strengthening U.S.-Japan relations. The scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduates or graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in Japan. It will cover up to the full cost of attendance. Factors such as finances are taken into consideration in determining the award amount.
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. citizens or permanent resident
- Currently in good academic standing at an accredited college or university in the U.S.
- Will be enrolled in an exchange program or credit-bearing course of study at a university or approved academic center in Japan in the upcoming academic year
- Demonstrates financial need for international study (i.e. Without financial assistance or support, would not be able to study abroad)
- Preference will be given to applicants who have been raised by a single parent or who have lost both parents (i.e. orphan), or to first-generation college students, or to applicants without international travel study experience.
Application Requirements: The scholarship requires several items such as an application form, personal statement essay, resume, letter of recommendation, Study Abroad Advisor Certification Letter, financial aid certification, and academic transcript.
