Will, a fourth-year economics major and business minor at the University of Oregon, decided to study abroad to immerse himself in a different culture. So far, he feels he's accomplished that goal.

One of Will's favorite parts of the experience has been meeting other Oregon students he wouldn't have crossed paths with otherwise. He's also enjoyed exploring Costa Rica's natural beauty, like the beaches and rainforests.

Beyond personal enrichment, Will's internship at Puerta a Puerta has provided valuable professional insights. "Something that I wouldn't have learned on campus without study abroad is just the work ethic of a company in another country," he explains. "It's been really cool to see the dynamics of a business in a foreign country and how they approach sustainability, which relates to what I'm studying."

While Will came in with minimal Spanish skills, which he admits was ill-advised, he's found the language challenge rewarding. "It's been cool to challenge myself every day and have to work to communicate. It's definitely strengthened my respect for people who are so effective at speaking multiple languages."

Overall, Will's study abroad experience has opened his eyes to new opportunities. "I haven't had a very clear idea of what I wanted to do. Being down here and seeing how businesses and the culture are different, it's definitely opened up my eyes a little bit. It's been really nice to know there are other opportunities out there that I had no idea about just a few weeks ago."
