The Khalid M. Al Suhaimi and Jane L. Goodwin Endowed Study Abroad Scholarship Fund has been established to provide support for UO students who plan to study, intern, or conduct research in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the non-GCC member states of the Arab League, and countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Destination countries are ranked in order of preference below. Scholarship applicants who plan to study, intern, or research in Tier 1 nations will be given preference over applicants going to Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries, respectively. Up to three scholarships of at least $1000 each will be awarded to students accepted for participation in GEO-sponsored study abroad programs or international internships. Selection is based on academic merit, a well-completed scholarship application, and financial need.

Eligibility

• Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate student at the UO.
• Applicant must ultimately be accepted to participate in a GEO-sponsored study abroad, internship, or research program in one of the countries listed below.
• Applicant must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.
• Applicant must demonstrate financial need (based on FAFSA). International students must complete a Financial Aid Worksheet, available during the application process.  

Tier 1
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries:
United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia

Tier 2
The non-GCC member states of the Arab League:
*Jordan, *Morocco, Algeria, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen

Tier 3
All countries in Sub-Saharan Africa
