The course content focuses on the analysis of the basic linguistic characteristics of the Spanish language. It introduces students to the study of the Spanish sound system (phonetics and phonology), formation of words (morphology), sentence structure (syntax), as well as the evolution of the different Spanish varieties (historic, regional, and social). This class will prepare students for higher-level courses in Hispanic linguistics and others in which Spanish is used in formal academic contexts. This course requires students to have completed two years of college-level Spanish.

El objetivo de esta clase es lograr proveer un panorama general e introductorio sobre la lingüística del español a través de un proceso dinámico en donde el alumno pueda experimentar con el español y aprender sobre aspectos generales que lo componen como los sonidos, los morfemas, partes importantes de la oración así como teorías sobre la adquisición del lenguaje entre otros temas relacionados.

This course provides an introduction to how key aggregate variables such as real economic activity, economic growth, unemployment, and inflation are determined. You will learn to apply Classical and Keynesian theories to these issues, exploring governmental monetary and fiscal policies in the process.

You will gain an understanding of the basics of confidence intervals and hypothesis testing in this course. You will learn to recognize the appropriate hypothesis test, carry out tests, and compute corresponding confidence levels. You will learn the two sample t-test, two sample proportions, z-test, as well as others, and how to carry out these tests and interpret results. The course will also cover data collection and sampling.

Five quarter credits.This course will be taught by linguistics instructors from UCAD (Université Cheikh Anta Diop), and will provide an essential foundation in Wolof vocabulary and grammar that you will use on an everyday basis.
