Program Overview

Experience the summer at a highly ranked university based in Seoul by participating in the Korea University International Summer Campus. With a student body of around 20,000 undergraduate students and 2,500 international students, Korea University allows you to take advantage of all that a large university has to offer. Korea University has a beautiful and modern campus on a hill in central Seoul, and is easily accessible by subway. The campus has many new and well-equipped teaching facilities. The library complex is a particular favorite amongst students as is the Global Leadership Hall with its international café that encourages conversation between Korean and international students. 

With more than 10 million residents, Seoul is the South Korean center of politics, culture, and the economy, where ministries, museums, palaces, theaters, and financial markets are located close together. Seoul is also the home to industry giants such as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai. As a leader of the IT revolution, Seoul is one of the most wired cities in the world. Korea University’s Seoul campus is centrally located within the city and easily accessible via subway.

You will take 2 or 3 classes, or around 10-15 UO credits total, in English and participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. Classes are available in subjects such as: Business and Economics, Humanities, Psychology, Sociology and Cultural Studies, Fine Art and Design, Science, Law/Politics/International Relations, Korean and East Asian Studies, and Korean Language. See further information here.

This program has a rolling admission application process: GEO staff will complete a review of the application materials of complete applications in the order that they are submitted (“first come, first serve”). Decisions about your enrollment will be made after you submit a complete application. Students are encouraged to complete applications and commit to programs early.

Successful applicants will receive a nomination from GEO. Selection will be based on a holistic review of your application. This includes a review of your GPA, transcripts (including courses taken and in-progress), any additional requirements or prerequisites (see section "Additional Requirements"), and written statements. 

Applying for this program involves 2 steps. If you receive a nomination from GEO, you will also need to complete the host university's application, which is administered and reviewed by your host university directly. Instructions will be provided after acceptance by GEO. The host university makes the final decision regarding acceptance into the program.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Academic Details

On the Korea University International Summer Campus program, you will take 2 or 3 classes, which may include a Korean language class. On this program, you will earn around 10-15 UO credits. The class list and syllabi are typically posted online ahead of time so that you can work out course equivalencies in advance. See class list here.

Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.

IMPORTANT: The GEO Cancellation Policy is effective from the time a student agrees to pay their non-refundable program deposit or electronically signs the program commitment form, regardless of application or acceptance status. It is essential to read this policy before a potential cancellation takes place, to fully understand the withdrawal and cancellation penalties, and to understand what it means financially to commit to a study abroad program.

Students who cancel their participation must notify GEO in writing. Email is acceptable (geoinfo@uoregon.edu). Verbal notification to GEO or notification given to a non-UO campus study abroad office is not sufficient.
