Program Overview
Spend the month of August in Tübingen, a historic university town that is the ideal place to learn German, experience new cultures, and make new friends from all over the world.
Participants in the International Summer Course will not only learn German language, they will also become knowledgeable about contemporary German society, politics, and culture. Every weekday, students will have four hours of language lessons in the morning and a two-hour tutorial in the afternoon. The course encompasses intensive training in writing and speaking, grammar, reading comprehension, intercultural general knowledge and everyday culture. In addition, course participants prepare projects on subjects of their own choice within the fields of language and knowledge of Germany. Note: Students participating on this summer program will earn a total of 4 UO credits.
Outside of class, excursions to locations outside of Tübingen are offered as part of the Summer Course. Tübingen is surrounded by beautiful countryside and interesting towns, castles and monasteries. One full-day excursion takes you to Lake Constance, Germany’s largest lake, which is set in an impressive landscape. Other activities may include historical or cultural seminars, theater performances, concerts, tours and town festivals, as well as sporting events. Many of these activities are covered by the program fee.

Application process
Selection for the program is based on a review of the student's written application, transcripts, recommendations and completion of the interview process.
IMPORTANT: Applications for IE3 programs involve two parts. Both parts of the application are due by the application deadline. Early application is advised.
- Completion of the GEO online application.
- Completion of the IE3 online application, which includes the following:
- Essays
- Two Recommendations
- Official Transcripts
Please note that students cannot begin the interview process until both applications are complete.
Application fees are due at the time the applications are submitted and are non-refundable under any circumstances.
Housing Description
Students stay in single rooms in university residence halls with shared bathrooms and kitchens. The cost of accommodations is included in the program fee to IE3. Students typically eat lunch at the university cafeteria Monday through Friday during the week while they are taking class.
Your accommodation fee also includes a bus pass which you can use in Tübingen for the month.
