Program Overview

This three-week Global Sports Business Strategy program at the GEO London Centre exposes you to international sports businesses and highlights business strategies and priorities for both US-based sports businesses operating in international markets and Global companies that engage with US consumers. This program is an excellent way for a student interested in an international career to experience the possibilities of international markets in a firsthand and intensive immersion. It is important to understand how the cultural, social, and political context affects business strategies across core functions. 

You will engage in a comparative exploration of sports business industries and markets throughout London and the UK, engage with executives and staff from a myriad of international sport business organizations, participate in sporting activities and to experience other sporting events as spectators, and enhance your cultural understanding of the role that sport plays in countries around the world. You will gain perspective on your own native sport culture in comparison to others around the world, which will help you become a more informed and insightful professional.

Faculty-Led Scholarship Opportunity

Applicants to this program are eligible for program-specific scholarship funds. Award recipients are chosen based on academic merit, financial need, and overall quality of their essay. Individual awards range from $500-$1,500. To be considered, apply to the GEO General Scholarship by the advertised deadline for the term you will be abroad. Students who apply will automatically be considered for all available funding within the General Scholarship, including this program's scholarship funds.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Academic Details

You will earn elective credit in the UO business major while fulfilling one of the business major’s Global Context requirement courses. The program combines traditional academic teaching modules, corporate site visits and spectator sport/sport culture experiences. The program will expose you to how sports businesses operate around the world, in addition to highlighting the business strategies and priorities for US-based sports businesses operating in international markets.

For business administration and accounting majors this program meets the Cultural Awareness for Business Decisions Requirement with LCB academic advisor approval. Please contact a LCB academic advisor for more details about these requirements.

Faculty and Staff

This program is led by Yoav Dubinsky, who joined the Lundquist College of Business in 2018 after completing his PhD at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Born and raised in Tel-Aviv, Israel, Dubinsky is a sports researcher and a former sports journalist with almost two decades of experience covering and researching local, national, and international sports. His interdisciplinary scholarship focuses on sports, nation branding, public diplomacy, and country image and especially how countries, cities, and communities try to improve their images and reputations through sports.

Housing Description

Students will be living in shared housing in Central London. Students will be housed in twin rooms in either apartments or studios with shared living spaces. The housing will be conveniently located in either Zone 2 or Zone 3 in London. Students will be within walking distance of the Tube network, local supermarkets, restaurants and cafes.The housing will be fully furnished and the cooking spaces will be fully equipped with utensils, plates, glasses and cookware. All apartments have Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, linens and 24/7 emergency support. Your program application will have a housing questionnaire to gather information and assist with roommate assignments. Please note that students may share an apartment with students of a different gender.
