Michael Angulo is a faculty member at the University of Oregon’s Labor Education and Research Center (LERC). As a Labor Policy Research Associate at LERC, he works on strategic initiatives for worker organizations across the Pacific Northwest. He has spent over 15 years working as an organizer, researcher, and policy director for labor unions, community groups and local elected officials. He received his B.A. in History and International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame, where he spent time abroad researching social movement in El Salvador, Chile and Argentina. He holds a Master’s in Urban Planning from the University of Southern California. He lives with his wife and two children in Portland, Oregon. Angulo will teach Organizing for Change: Social Movements in Modern Spain.
Dr. Carla Suárez Vega brings extensive expertise in modern Spanish history, politics, culture, and social movements. Her PhD dissertation, Transición Precaria: Resistencia Cultural e Intervención Queer en la Transición Española (1973–1986), examines cultural resistance and political change during Spain’s transition to democracy. Her publications and research focus on the Spanish transition, historical memory, social movements, and the legacy of the Spanish Civil War. In addition to her research, Dr. Suárez Vega has significant teaching experience, including with international students. She currently teaches in the English Department at Universidad de Oviedo and also in the university’s Intensive Summer Spanish Program. Previously, she taught Spanish language and culture courses for six years at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her background combines academic expertise with a strong commitment to supporting students in international and cross-cultural learning environments. Dr. Suárez Vega will teach History, Politics, and Culture in Modern Spain.
