Introduction to Chinese Government, Politics and Policy

This is an introductory course on contemporary Chinese politics, government and public policy for international students. This course examines China from a variety of perspectives to enlighten our understanding of China today. All through the course, we will try to tackle the following questions: To what extent did the communist/revolutionary legacy affect reform-era politics and policy in China? Why has China been able to achieve such significant economic growth in the past three decades?

Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics

The course content focuses on the analysis of the basic linguistic characteristics of the Spanish language. It introduces students to the study of the Spanish sound system (phonetics and phonology), formation of words (morphology), sentence structure (syntax), as well as the evolution of the different Spanish varieties (historic, regional, and social). This class will prepare students for higher-level courses in Hispanic linguistics and others in which Spanish is used in formal academic contexts. This course requires students to have completed two years of college-level Spanish.

Introduction to Linguistics

Esta clase es un curso introductorio a los principales conceptos y métodos de análisis y descripción lingüística en español. A lo largo del curso los estudiantes se familiarizarán con los conceptos básicos vinculados a las áreas fundamentales del estudio del lenguaje y la lengua que le permitan acceder posteriormente a cursos más elevados de análisis lingüístico.

Introduction to Probability and Statistics

You will gain an understanding of the basics of confidence intervals and hypothesis testing in this course. You will learn to recognize the appropriate hypothesis test, carry out tests, and compute corresponding confidence levels. You will learn the two sample t-test, two sample proportions, z-test, as well as others, and how to carry out these tests and interpret results. The course will also cover data collection and sampling.

Italian Language 101

The first level course will introduce the student to the Italian language, covering the basic communicative tools that are useful for everyday interaction in Italy. The students will not only be taught the linguistic system, but will also be given strategies and techniques that facilitate the learning process.

Italian Language 103

Ital 103 course builds on the linguistic skills covered in the previous levels, introducing new, more complex structures. The students will be taught not only the linguistic system, but will also be given strategies and techniques that facilitate the learning process.
