Boren Graduate Fellowships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, are awarded to currently enrolled graduate students for overseas language study, academic study, research (either Master’s or Ph.D. level), an academic internship, or any combination of the above in geographic areas, languages, and fields of study critical to U.S. national security.

In an effort to expand access to education abroad, GEO has made available a Scholarship for First Generation College Students. This is a planning scholarship for UO students whose parents/legal guardians did not complete a 4-year college bachelor’s degree. As a planning scholarship, recipients of the GEO Scholarship for First-Generation College Students can use the award to study abroad in a GEO-sponsored program at any time during their college career at the UO.
The GEO Scholarship for Students with Disabilities is a planning scholarship available to UO students who have a documented disability. Recipients of the scholarship can use the award to study abroad on a GEO-sponsored program at any time during their college career at the UO. A number of $1,000-$3,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to help support students with documented disabilities who aspire to study abroad.
The Neville Dean Method Scholarship aims to support first-generation college students who are planning to participate in a study abroad program or international internship during the summer. Dean Method was a first-generation college student who received an associate’s degree from Chemeketa Community College and then a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon. He was the first in his family to attend college. This scholarship in his name is meant to help provide access and student success to first-generation college students at the University of Oregon.
