The Schwarzman Scholars (opens in new window) is a fully funded, one-year master’s program, at Tsinghua University in Beijing (opens in new window) that is designed to prepare students for global leadership roles.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, the Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship Program (opens in new window) provides undergraduate and graduate students with financial support, mentoring and professional development to prepare them academically and professionally for a career in the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service.

Rotary Peace Fellowship (opens in new window) supports students interested in careers in peace building and offers two types of peace fellowships. The Master’s Degree Fellowship and Professional Development Certificate. Each Rotary Peace Fellowship covers tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.

The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff) (opens in new window) is an award offered to students at specific Oregon universities, including the UO, that supports graduate student international research.

The Joan Bowman Siegel and Mark Siegel Travel Fund will make available 2-4 scholarships of $1,000-$2,000 for undergraduate students participating in UO-sponsored study abroad programs or internships in Asia, with a preference for Japan. Applicants must be enrolled in any major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Selection is based on academic merit and a well-completed scholarship application. Preference will be given to applicants with previous college-level Japanese language coursework. The GEO Scholarship Committee will make the awards.

The Khalid M. Al Suhaimi and Jane L. Goodwin Endowed Study Abroad Scholarship Fund has been established to provide support for UO students who plan to study, intern, or conduct research in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the non-GCC member states of the Arab League, and countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Destination countries are ranked in order of preference below. Scholarship applicants who plan to study, intern, or research in Tier 1 nations will be given preference over applicants going to Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries, respectively.

Annually, up to seven $1,000-$1,500 scholarships will be awarded to students accepted for participation in GEO-sponsored study abroad or international internship programs in Japan during the academic year. This award is not available for summer programs. Selection is based on academic merit and a well-completed scholarship application. Preference will be given to applicants with previous college-level Japanese language coursework. The GEO Scholarship Committee will select the recipients.

The Melinda Tims Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students at the University of Oregon for study abroad during the summer. One or two scholarships from $750 - $1,000 will be awarded each year.
 
Scholarship awards may be used to assist one or more students with expenses related to studying abroad, including course materials, medical insurance, tuition, travel expenses, and housing.

The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs in Japan. Recipients are awarded $2,500 for semester-long programs and $4,000 for academic year-long programs. Undergraduate students majoring in any field are eligible to apply for the Bridging Scholarship for Study in Japan (opens in new window).

Requirements:

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) scholarships are available only to CIEE program participants. These grants are awarded each year to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need. The awards are applied directly to the applicant’s CIEE program fee.
