Taiwan is an island nation off the coast of mainland China. In the capital city, Taipei, and its surrounding metro area of New Taipei City, students will find around 4 million people in this populated area and one of the world’s largest skyscrapers, the Taipei 101. Outside of the cities, Taiwan also is known for its hills and steep mountains, lush forests, and coastal plains, and port cities. Additionally, students who are enrolled in this program have access to a variety of cultural extracurricular activities such as cooking classes, tea farm day trips, group cycling tours, group hikes, eating tours, and more!

What is GlobalWorks?

GlobalWorks internships are personalized internship programs that bring you out of the country, and into the workplace. We connect academic study with real-world experiences by providing full-time international internship opportunities to UO students in various career fields. Working with local professional internship providers in locations around the world, we provide individualized placements for UO students. Students earn UO credits and life-changing work experience in a different culture. Immerse yourself in a new city, earn UO course credits, and gain professional experience with a GlobalWorks internship.

Apply to UO GlobalWorks International Internship programs by clicking the “Start an Application.” You can open an application to view all the materials you’ll need before you submit. Late applications may be accepted based on position availability but note that for some terms and locations the program can be very competitive. After review by the University, students will need to interview with our third-party provider for final acceptance. For more information, view the full GlobalWorks application steps here. Note that you only need to submit one application per term for GlobalWorks and can identify alternate locations within the application. 

This program is less than 90 days. Students with a US passport traveling to this location do not require a travel visa for this program. 

If you are not a US Citizen: Notify your GlobalWorks Advisor. Students who are not US citizens should contact the consulate in their country of residence about visa requirements, no matter the duration of the program of study.

Freeman Internship Fellowship

This program is eligible for a grant up to $6,500 through the Freeman Fellowship. Award amounts are determined by financial need, academic merit, location, budget, and other support, and is contingent upon available scholarship funds. Learn more and apply for the Freeman Internship Fellowship.

Academic Details

Students will enroll in the following courses: 

  1. OGWI 188: Intercultural Communication (1 or 4 credits)
  2. OGWI 488: Internship (8 credits)  

Note: The two courses above are online and asynchronous, and there will not be any in-person lectures. Students can choose the number of credits to take Intercultural Communication for after program acceptance. Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.

Housing Description

Interns who go to Taipei will be offered fully vetted accommodations by the local intern provider. The convenient, safe, and comfortable accommodations are fully furnished living spaces with hi-speed WiFi. Accommodations are strategically located to ensure a commute of less than an hour, enhancing convenience and work-life balance. Easy access to public transport also means interns are able to explore nearby local cultural offerings and amenities while simplifying commutes, overall enriching the internship experience.
