Transforming Organizations in London will teach you about the organizational, operational, and leadership efforts needed to transform organizations into a 'force for good.' Europe is several years ahead of the rest of the world in implementing sustainability standards to which businesses are expected to adhere. Sustainability is increasingly important in a world facing climate change, food insecurity, healthcare challenges, and social/economic inequality. London is populated by companies at the forefront of transformation with new business models that can lead to a healthier society, economy, and environment. This program will offer invaluable lessons in respects to startups and mature businesses alike as they seek to have a more positive impact on the world.

Faculty-Led Scholarship Opportunity

Applicants to this program are eligible for program-specific scholarship funds. Award recipients are chosen based on academic merit, financial need, and overall quality of their essay. Individual awards range from $500-$1,500. To be considered, apply to the GEO General Scholarship by the advertised deadline for the term you will be abroad. Students who apply will automatically be considered for all available funding within the General Scholarship, including this program's scholarship funds.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Academic Details

Transforming Organizations into a Force for Good (4 Credits) explores how businesses and their leaders can adapt and transform into a demonstrable force for good to address sustainability challenges.

Cross-Cultural Negotiation (4 Credits) explores the theory and practice of negotiating effectively across cultures. This course is an upper division elective course for Business Administration majors and also satisfies the Cultural Awareness for Business Decisions requirement. Cross Cultural Negotiation can also count as BA 365. It may also apply to Global Studies majors and Global Service minor with advisor approval.

Faculty and Staff

Dr. John Davis is a Professor of Practice at University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business and chair of BrandNewView, a leadership firm focused on helping organizations become a force for social and economic good. Dr. Davis is a former Fortune 500 executive, having led marketing teams for Nike and served as vice president of marketing and business development at Transamerica, Informix, and Unify. He has also founded two award-winning companies—Northwest Resorts, a boutique resort firm, and BrandNewView. He is a best-selling author and has written books focused on strategy, branding and marketing, higher education, and the global sports business. His eleventh book, Radical Business, details what businesses must do to become a force for social and economic good. He earned his MBA at Columbia University and his BA at Stanford University. He will lead Transforming Organizations into a Force for Good (4 Credits).

Imran Butt is an experienced and qualified consultant that has worked in education, media, digital technology, telecommunications, leisure and hospitality. He has lectured at London Metropolitan University, University of Kent, and Boston University. He earned his MSc at University of Oxford and his BA in Business Management and Marketing at University of Westminster. He will lead Cross-Cultural Negotiation (4 Credits).

Housing Description

Students will live in one of the University of London residence halls. Housing is conveniently located within walking distance of the GEO London Center and the underground transportation system. 

Students will be placed in single units. All single rooms are equipped with a hand basin, a bed, a study area, and storage space. Rooms also include a telephone, Wi-Fi, and a data socket. Restrooms and shower facilities are shared amongst the residents. The residence hall also has communal study rooms, lounge spaces, a computer lab, and laundry facilities available to students.

Daily breakfast is included in the program fee and is taken in the hall's cafeteria. Shared refrigerators, microwaves, and other basic kitchen appliances are available in the common areas. The residence hall is near various grocery stores and restaurants.
