Spanish Grammar and Conversation in Segovia

This is as an intermediate level course that helps consolidate your prior knowledge of the Spanish language helping you acquire confidence, not only in understanding the language, but also in using the target language properly. You will not only have access to the language in a real context, but you will also gain cultural knowledge (traditions and social etiquette) which will help you understand the Spanish speaking world. Your interaction with the instructor will be ongoing in class.This course is offered in Block C of the Spring Quarter.

Spanish Literature from Dictatorship to Postmodernism (1939-2010)

Esta clase está dedicada al estudio de la literatura española del periodo de la Dictadura de Franco desde 1939, en el tiempo de la postguerra en el que la sociedad española carece de libertades y el contraste con el nuevo periodo que se abre para la sociedad y la literatura con la llegada de la democracia en España en 1978 hasta la actualidad. Testigo esencial fue la solicitud a la CEE para una eventual integración de España en el Mercado Común el año 1962, en el que se inicia la larga ruta de la eupeización que culminará en 1986, con su ingreso en la Comunidad Europea.

Spanish Literature: Spain in Crisis–From the Disaster of 1898 to Democracy

In this course you will study Spanish literature around 1898. This was a time of crisis in Spanish society from which a group of writers surfaced that made up the Silver Age of Hispanic arts. The period studied is after the Civil War of 1936 with the censor limitations of Franco. Lastly, authors of the restored democracy will be read and studied.In the Spring Semester and Spring Quarter this course is offered in Block B.

Criminal Justice in Rosario

Throughout history some behaviors have been qualified as criminal and societies have found different ways of punishing them. Still, crime is a current issue and states and international institutions have worked unsuccessfully trying to find and provide solutions. As of late, global society has brought the tension between development and poverty to a critical point and responses in general point to the segregation and discrimination of many people and absolute disdain for human rights.

2nd Year Spanish - Conversation in Rosario

In this course, will participate in a series of conversational activities in order to develop their spoken Spanish. Activities will focus on building vocabulary, improving pronunciation, and learning culturally appropriate pragmatic conversation skills (turn taking, conventional turns of phrase, formulaic greetings, etc.). This course requires students to have completed one year of college-level Spanish.
