Program Overview

Immerse yourself in Seoul’s vibrant culture through K-drama, K-pop, Korean cuisine, and K-beauty. This four-week program combines classroom learning with hands-on experiences and excursions, from iconic filming locations to bustling music districts, allowing students to explore Korea’s global cultural impact, social life, and traditions.

This program is offered in collaboration with Hanyang University through the Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) in Seoul. The program begins with a one-week cultural and academic orientation on the beautiful island of Jeju, followed by three weeks of study and exploration in Seoul. 

During the three weeks in Seoul, you will attend lectures and discussions led by University of Oregon faculty in English, and take a class taught by Hanyang University faculty.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Academic Details

You will take two 4-credit courses for a total of 8 UO credits:

  • You will take a class taught by UO faculty, Susanna Lim.
  • You will enroll in another class from a list of approved Hanyang University courses. The list of Hanyang University courses is being finalized and will be published as soon as it is available.

Faculty and Staff

Susanna Lim is an Associate Professor of Korean Studies and Russian Studies at the University of Oregon. With nearly twenty years of teaching experience across cultures, languages, and fields, she enjoys helping students explore new perspectives. She is currently writing a book on the meaning of race in modern South Korea. She is currently listening to “Change” by BTS’s RM and Nigerian-American rapper Wale.
