Program Overview

Staggering architecture, rich cultural history, a turbulent past and exciting future – Prague is as fascinating a city as it is beautiful. Spend your summer exploring the rich cultural and social heritage of Prague, the Czech Republic, and Central Europe through the exploration of its art and architectural roots, local societies, and dynamic history.

In this program you will have access to coursework, cultural excursions, activities, and roommates that will give you the opportunity to make the city your own. You will spend your summer in one of Europe’s most exciting cities, and learn about a variety of Central European issues and Czech perspectives, participate in experiential activities linked with coursework, and explore the city.

Students take one content course per session, and can also enroll in the optional Communicative Czech Language course during one session of their choice. It is recommended that students select an alternate course, as final course offerings are dependent on total enrollment and student interest.

You will have the opportunity to live with local students in an apartment in one of Prague’s authentic neighborhoods, get help acclimating to the city through CIEE Flat Buddies—local Charles University or FAMU students, and partake in cultural activities and day/weekend excursions that augment class material.

UO students looking for a longer summer study abroad program are able to combine the last two sessions offered by CIEE. Consult with your GEO Study Abroad Advisor before starting an application.

If you are interested in applying to a CIEE program, we strongly advise you to meet with an advisor prior to applying.

Selection for the program is based on a review of your written application, recommendation, transcript(s), and completion of the interview process. Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by CIEE.

IMPORTANT: Application for a CIEE program involves two parts:

  • Completion of the GEO application process.
  • Completion of the CIEE application process.

Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the CIEE deadline.
