Program Overview

Legal Studies in Wales is a four week program offered by Cardiff University in Wales, UK, designed to give students a competitive advantage in pursuing legal careers by combining practical skills training with real-world legal experience. You will learn from qualified solicitors or barristers with substantial experience in professional legal practice as well as legal education. At the same time, you will gain first-hand experience of client engagement at Cardiff University’s Law Clinic.

As for Cardiff University Law Clinic, it was launched in 2005 and offers diverse practical opportunities. The clinic has received many National Attorney General Awards and expanded in 2024 by employing more practising lawyers to enhance its clinical activity. It hosts the Cardiff Law School Innocence Project, which is licensed by the Innocence Project in New York. As the only university project in the United Kingdom to have overturned a criminal conviction, Cardiff has achieved two notable successes.

This program consists of two complementary modules:

  • Module 1: Legal Practices Skills

This module focuses on developing core professional skills relevant to legal practice, many of which are also transferable to other professions. These include negotiation, court advocacy, and legal research, with an emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and concise expression. Students will learn how to locate, interpret, and apply the law to specific scenarios, and no prior knowledge of UK law is required.

  • Module 2: Law Clinic Practicum

This module provides students with hands-on practical experience. Students receive training in client consultation and interviewing and legal writing, and gain exposure to real client work through Cardiff University’s Law Clinic.
