Six credits - Pass/No Pass only. This course fits into the ongoing redevelopment context, and you will be designing a large (25,000 – 50,000 s.f.), multi-story, mixed-use public building for one of several real sites on less-active areas of the island, with particular attention paid to how the building would help realize specific planning goals as articulated in published Granville Island planning documents. Part of the problem will include defining and programming the uses of the building. You will be expected to respond to the particular urban condition of Granville Island and specific local planning objectives, to develop and realize a comprehensive vision of the building, and to deal with technical issues of climate, light, structure and construction in a fully integrated manner. Evaluations will be in the form of desk critiques, studio pin-ups, and mid-term and final reviews.
