Course Description

This course fulfills 4 credits of Media in Landscape Architecture for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as an area concentration in urban design for graduate students.In this course, students will explore the relationships of the biophysical and the cultural/human built environments of Hong Kong. Ways the city has changed swiftly over short periods of time will be studied through tours, excursions to the city’s edges, lectures, drawing, researching and the active making of hybrid/collaged maps in teams with Hong Kong University Landscape Architecture students.Themes and destinations of tours include: HKU Centenary Campus, Hong Kong City Space, Alternative Hong Kong, Hong Kong Topology, and Community and Governance. Specific site visits include One Island East, Taikoo Shing; Harbour Road Garden, Wanchai; Pacific Place 3, Wanchai; Bank of China Tower, Admiralty; Chater Garden, Central; Statue Square, Central; Jardines House, Central; Pak Tsz Lane, Central. Study sites include: Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defense, Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Garden, Mount Davis, Pokfulam Reservoir, Repulse Bay Beach, Victoria Peak Garden, Happy Valley Cemeteries, Stanley Military Cemetery / St Stephen’s Beach.
