Covadonga is the place where a famous battle took place in the year 722, one that marked the beginning of the “War of the Reconquest,” the eight-centuries effort to take control of the Iberian peninsula and that has become a key historical episode in the mythology of Spanish nationalism. We will visit other nearby towns so that students get to know the beautiful and historical Asturian landscape. 

See Burgos, home to El Cid, and visit the Gothic Cathedral. At La Rioja, tour the Museo del Vino, San Millan Yuso and Suso Monasteries, considered to be the "Cradle of the Spanish Language."

With Bilbao as a home base, explore the Old Quarter of the city and its two well known museums, The Guggenheim and the Museo de Bellas Artes. Spend a day in San Sebastián, home of the famous film festival, elegant shops and tapas bars and La Concha beach.

Visit Yacimiento Arqueológico Castro de Coaña and the coastal town of Luarca.

Visit Madrid's famous Prado and Reina Sofia Museums and explore the Madrid of the Borbon and Hapsburg dynasties. Spend the day in Toledo and visit the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, Casa del Greco, Cathedral, Museo Sefardi and Iglesia de Santo Tomé.
