Four quarter credits.
This Material and Detail course satisfies the UO Department of Architecture Advanced Technical elective requirement or the Art and Architecture History or ARCH 4/523 Advanced Media or subject area elective.
This course will examine materials, details and systems of construction across the span of Italian architectural history. Through sequential and comparative studies of the spatial structure and technical means of buildings, you will be asked to articulate concepts of time and place in architecture. Individual, weekly, large-format sketchbook assignments will investigate examples of characteristic buildings that track building technologies through historical periods and geographic location. Team projects will focus on the technical analysis of a building and produce an illustrated final paper.
