Course Description

(UGST 199) Introduction to US Higher Education (4 credits): This course is an integral component of the pre-freshman international program in Shanghai. It is designed to help international students prepare to come to the UO, get to know US higher educational culture and expectations, and earn credits in topics relevant to their core education and possible degree pathways.

This course will introduce students to the basic structure, expectations, rules (formal and informal), norms habits and customs of typical courses at University of Oregon. Students will experience real-time, full-speed-English teaching by UO faculty, with support and guidance from local staff in both English and Chinese. Course will explore and explain culture of higher ed through topics such as Business, Mathematics, Physics, US History and Global Art, with UO faculty as key guest speakers for each topic. Head of program Will Johnson will be the co-host of the class.
