Written Expression (Intermediate I and II) in Oviedo

A lo largo del curso se combinarán las explicaciones en el aula con la realización de prácticas y ejercicios donde se trabajarán las cuatro destrezas, pero poniendo especial énfasis en la expresión e interacción escrita. Al final de cada unidad didáctica se realizará una tarea final o examen parcial donde se pondrá en práctica lo aprendido, dando prioridad específicamente a las destrezas escritas.

Contemporary Urban Design in Barcelona seminar 488/588 (UO ARCH 410/510)

Four credits.This seminar focuses on measuring neighborhood social interaction. It examines fundamental contemporary principles such as the self-sufficiency of city blocks and superblocks, and urban ecology of cities as organisms of interrelated systems. Contextualization of Barcelona urban design is done through studies of neighborhood morphologies in Barcelona, Girona and Granada.

Winter Prep Course in London (mandatory)

This course is designed to prepare you for your spring term adventure in London. You will be encouraged to ask questions and actively take part in preparing yourself for your term abroad. You will also be expected to listen to your classmates and respect each other’s differences in order to develop a healthy group dynamic. You will need a notebook or journal, and a London guidebook of your choosing.

Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition

This course is ideal if you have already acquired a high level of Spanish and want to move up to mastery level. Specifically, you will practice advanced grammar structures and the use of idiomatic words and phrases to improve both their written and oral skills by means of grammar and vocabulary exercises, oral debates and weekly writing assignments. Your active participation on a daily basis is essential. 

PPPM: 488/588: Designing Cities for People on Bikes

Study bicycle planning, design, policy, and culture as a sustainable and economically viable form of transportation in key urban locations in Western Europe. This program will focus on the practices and policies that foster safe, convenient, and accessible bicycle infrastructure and the underlying culture that supports a high rate of bicycle use. Explore how and why Denmark and the Netherlands became great places to bike and consider how to make similar changes within the United States.

Spain and Its Role in the European Union

This course gives a broad vision of the present situation of Spain and the countries that currently make up the European Union. At the same time, the institutions and the government agencies of the European Union are studied to understand the reach and future possibilities that this supranational organization offers as a united block immersed in today's world. Lastly, we will analyze the single currency, the Euro, and its impact on the economic future of the “Euro Zone” and the rest of the world’s economic powers.In the Spring Semester and Spring Quarter this course is offered in Block B.
