Toshizo Watanabe Scholarship

The Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship is being offered by the U.S.-Japan Council, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit that contributes to strengthening U.S.-Japan relations. The scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduates or graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in Japan. It will cover up to the full cost of attendance. Factors such as finances are taken into consideration in determining the award amount.

Indigenous Studies Exchange (ISE) Program Scholarship

The UO-Otago Indigenous Studies Exchange (ISE) program provides unique opportunities for select students from each campus to immerse themselves in Native American and Indigenous Studies academic and cultural activities in an international context. The Division of Global Engagement will offer a full scholarship* to two UO students to participate in the ISE program during the Fall 2024 Semester (July – November) at the University of Otago.
 

GEO Scholarship for First-Generation College Students

In an effort to expand access to education abroad, GEO has made available a Scholarship for First Generation College Students. This is a planning scholarship for UO students whose parents/legal guardians did not complete a 4-year college bachelor’s degree. As a planning scholarship, recipients of the GEO Scholarship for First-Generation College Students can use the award to study abroad in a GEO-sponsored program at any time during their college career at the UO.

GEO Study Abroad Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

The GEO Study Abroad Scholarship for Students with Disabilities is a planning scholarship available to UO students who have a documented disability. Recipients of the scholarship can use the award to study abroad on a GEO-sponsored program at any time during their college career at the UO. A number of $1,000-$3,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to help support students with documented disabilities who aspire to study abroad.  

Dean Method Scholarship for First-Generation College Students

The Neville Dean Method Scholarship aims to support first-generation college students who are planning to participate in a study abroad program or international internship during the summer. Dean Method was a first-generation college student who received an associate’s degree from Chemeketa Community College and then a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon. He was the first in his family to attend college. This scholarship in his name is meant to help provide access and student success to first-generation college students at the University of Oregon.

Food, Culture, and Sustainability in Siena

Experience Italian food and culture in the contexts of beautiful Siena and Tuscany. Italian cuisine has influenced food culture around the world and is viewed as a form of art by many. Participating in this program will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of complex food-related issues and develop new insights into the ways in which food mediates social, political, cultural, environmental, and economic processes.

Liberal Arts in London

Building on a quarter-century of academic excellence, the London Centre offers multi-disciplinary courses in the liberal arts and humanities. Each course places an important emphasis on experiential learning, transforming the entire city of London into your classroom by incorporating several local outings and excursions. 

 

Spanish Immersion in Oviedo

You will take your core language courses in Spanish (beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels) through the Curso de Lengua y Cultura Españolas para Extranjeros (ELE) at the University of Oviedo. At ELE you will attend courses with US and other international students. The Cross-Cultural Communication and Cross-Cultural Perspectives class is taught in English by the GEO Center Director.

English-Spanish Translation–Introduction (Intermediate)

Los objetivos de este curso son: (a) introducir al alumno en la práctica de la traducción como instrumento de aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera; (b) reforzar sus conocimientos previos de español mediante su comparación con la lengua inglesa; (c) Practicar sobre las áreas de conflicto de ambas lenguas para un estudiante de habla inglesa; (d) lograr, con ciertas garantías, que los alumnos utilicen un discurso cada vez más complejo con la mayor corrección posible.Syllabus available upon request, email GEOinfo@uoregon.edu.
