Program Overview

Paris, France is a city with a palpable reputation. You may expect the smell of fresh bread in the air as you sip your espresso at a table outside one of the city’s many cafes, followed by a walk along the Seine and an afternoon at a world-renowned museum. The Parisian love of food and drink with pedestrian-friendly passages and a seemingly limitless level of appreciation for the arts is still very true, but modernism and globalism have been permeating the city for quite some time as well.

While Paris is the birthplace of haute cuisine and haute couture, Paris is also an approachable city with more than just a bustling tourism hub. The city is very attractive for businesses and financial institutions as well as healthcare and tech of all kinds. With a great metro and very walkable areas, Paris is becoming even more sustainable and accessible as it tries to bridge the gap between the inner city and the outer suburbs. There are many reasons to discover why Paris is called The City of Lights.

What is GlobalWorks?

GlobalWorks internships are personalized internship programs that bring you out of the country, and into the workplace. We connect academic study with real-world experiences by providing full-time international internship opportunities to UO students in various career fields. Working with local professional internship providers in locations around the world, we provide individualized placements for UO students. Students earn UO credits and life-changing work experience in a different culture. Immerse yourself in a new city, earn UO course credits, and gain professional experience with a GlobalWorks internship.

Location Note: 

Programs in select GlobalWorks locations such as this one have a rolling admission application process. Due to a high volume of applications and potentially limited spaces, GEO staff will complete a review of the application materials of complete applications in the order that they are submitted (“first come, first serve”). Students are encouraged to identify alternate locations that they would feel comfortable interning in, or note if you are only interested in interning at this site. There are some programs that fill fast, some even before the deadline. Students are encouraged to complete applications and commit to programs early. A waitlist will be created, but students should be aware that being on the waitlist does not guarantee acceptance into a location.

How to apply: 

Apply to UO GlobalWorks International Internship programs by clicking the “Start an Application.” You can open an application to view all the materials you’ll need before you submit. Late applications may be accepted based on position availability but note that for some terms and locations the program can be very competitive. After review by the University, students will need to interview with our third-party provider for final acceptance. For more information, view the full GlobalWorks application steps here. Note that you only need to submit one application per term for GlobalWorks and can identify alternate locations within the application. 

This program is less than 90 days. Students with a US passport traveling to this location do not require a travel visa for this program. 

If you are not a US Citizen: Notify your GlobalWorks Advisor. Students who are not US citizens should contact the consulate in their country of residence about visa requirements, no matter the duration of the program of study.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Academic Details

Students will enroll in the following courses: 

  1. OGWI 188: Intercultural Communication (4 credits)
  2. OGWI 488: Internship (8 credits)

Course Equivalencies

Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.

Housing Description

Students in Paris will stay in a high-quality student residence with convenient access to the city’s renowned public transportation system. Each student will share a room with another program participant, with a private bathroom and toilet included. All participants will live in the same housing complex, creating a connected and social environment. Residences are always located within Zones 1 and 2 of the Paris metro system, which may occasionally place housing just outside the city’s official limits (périphérie). Note that housing may vary from term to term and from provider to provider.

IMPORTANT: The GEO Cancellation Policy is effective from the time a student agrees to pay their non-refundable program deposit or electronically signs the program commitment form, regardless of application or acceptance status. It is essential to read this policy before a potential cancellation takes place, to fully understand the withdrawal and cancellation penalties, and to understand what it means financially to commit to a study abroad program.

Students who cancel their participation must notify GEO in writing. Email is acceptable (geoinfo@uoregon.edu). Verbal notification to GEO or notification given to a non-UO campus study abroad office is not sufficient.
