The Gilman Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for undergraduate students to pursue study abroad and/or international internships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be receiving the Pell Grant as part of their financial aid through FAFSA. The Gilman Scholarship seeks to fund students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad and those who whose study abroad program is well aligned with their academic and professional goals.
Additional funds (up to $3,000) may be awarded to students studying critical need languages, such as Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Swahili, etc. on their program (see list of critical languages) There is also a STEM Supplemental Award of $1,000 for students conducting STEM-related research on their program.
Award recipients must complete a follow-on project upon their return home. Applications are submitted online. Your study abroad advisor and a financial aid officer will need to confirm that you are applying for a study abroad program/ international internship, and that you receive a Pell grant.
