Program Overview

In this exchange program, you will enroll directly in classes at OP Jindal Global University, the top ranked private university in India. JGU is a research intensive university, which is deeply committed to its core institutional values of interdisciplinary and innovative pedagogy; pluralism and rigorous scholarship; and globalism and international engagement. With around 9,000 students and 1,000 faculty, JGU maintains a low student to faculty ratio, and all classes are taught in English.

JGU’s twelve schools focus on Law, Business & Management, International Affairs, Public Policy, Liberal Arts & Humanities, Journalism, Art & Architecture, Banking & Finance, Environment & Sustainability, Psychology & Counselling, Languages & Literature and Public Health & Human Development. Students are able to take classes from any school, provided they meet the eligibility requirements for each class.

JGU is located on a 100-acre residential campus in the National Capital Region (NCR) of New Delhi. The Campus is designed by renowned, award-winning architect Stephane Paumier whose projects include the Alliance Française complex and the upcoming Air Force Museum in New Delhi. There are many amenities on campus that exchange students can take advantage of, including a convenience store, a 24-hour Health Center, campus security, and numerous sports facilities.

To make the most of your time in India, JGU has a travel desk that can help you book trips to other parts of the country. All international students are also provided with free pickup from Indira Gandhi International Airport. There is also a shuttle bus that will take students to the metro station nearest the JGU campus to allow you to explore Delhi. The shuttle bus charges a small fee (100 INR, or approximately 1.25 USD).

Sonipat is located about 25 miles from Delhi, and forms part of India’s National Capital Region. It’s a city of historical significance and is prominent in mythology and legends. Its proximity to New Delhi also provides students with ample opportunity to explore India’s vibrant and dynamic capital region.

 Note: Please be aware that JGU’s campus is non-smoking and prohibits alcohol.

The application process for this program is competitive: GEO staff will review your application materials, and a decision about your enrollment will not be made until after the application deadline. In some cases, an interview is required. If your program requires an interview, you will be contacted with further details about this process after the application deadline. Early applications are encouraged.

Successful applicants will receive an exchange nomination from GEO. Selection will be based on a holistic review of your application. This includes a review of your GPA, transcripts (including courses taken and in-progress), any additional requirements or prerequisites (see section "Additional Requirements"), and written statements.

Applying for an exchange program involves 2 steps. If you receive a nomination from GEO, you will also need to complete the host university's application, which is administered and reviewed by your host university directly. Instructions will be provided after acceptance by GEO. The host university makes the final decision regarding acceptance into the program.

Academic Details

All classes at JGU are taught in English. Exchange students are able to take classes offered in any school or subject at JGU, provided that you meet the enrollment requirements for each class. JGU offers classes in the following 12 schools, but please be aware that the Jindal School of Public Health and Human Development only has graduate-level programs:

Most students take between 12 and 16 credits per semester at JGU, and each 1 semester credit at JGU equals 1.5 UO quarter credits. As a result, most students will earn between 18-24 UO credits per semester in this program. Spring semester students should plan to take 16 credits per semester to maintain fulltime UO status while abroad.

Note: Students should consult with their UO academic advisor before finalizing their course enrollment at JGU.

Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.

Housing Description

JGU will provide on campus housing in university residence halls, called hostels, for all exchange students. There are separate hostels for male and female students and rooms are shared occupancy. You will pay JGU directly for the cost of your housing. Students are asked to get advance permission from the residence hall Warden to be away from the residence halls overnight.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is available on a self-service basis. Only vegetarian meals are served with the exception of eggs in certain meals. There is also a food court that offers meals from a variety of different cuisines and non-vegetarian options.

Budget and Price

Exchange programs have a fixed program fee that is calculated based on your Oregon residency status and the number of semesters that you spend abroad. Please note that the terms available for each exchange vary based on the university's academic calendar.

IMPORTANT: The GEO Cancellation Policy is effective from the time a student agrees to pay their non-refundable program deposit or electronically signs the program commitment form, regardless of application or acceptance status. It is essential to read this policy before a potential cancellation takes place, to fully understand the withdrawal and cancellation penalties, and to understand what it means financially to commit to a study abroad program.

Students who cancel their participation must notify GEO in writing. Email is acceptable (geoinfo@uoregon.edu). Verbal notification to GEO or notification given to a non-UO campus study abroad office is not sufficient.
