Program Overview

Spend your summer learning how to succeed in a globalized economy, discovering a new culture, and gaining crucial global perspectives – all while studying business in Shanghai. This program offers challenging coursework, volunteer opportunities, and interesting co-curricular activities designed to offer insight into international business.

Students choose one or two 4-week sessions and explore the Chinese economy, international management, and international relations. You will immerse yourself in the vibrant student population of East China Normal University, where you will have opportunities to hone your Chinese language abilities and knowledge about China.

CIEE offers three different summer sessions. UO students can choose from either Summer Session II, Summer Session III, or both Summer Sessions II and III. Summer Session I is not open to UO students, as it overlaps with the end of spring term.

Consult with your GEO Study Abroad Advisor before starting an application.  

If you are interested in applying to a CIEE program, we strongly advise you to meet with an advisor prior to applying.

Selection for the program is based on a review of your written application, recommendation, transcript(s), and completion of the interview process. Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by CIEE.

IMPORTANT: Application for a CIEE program involves two parts:

  1. Completion of the GEO application process.
  2. Completion of the CIEE application process.

Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the CIEE deadline. An application fee is due at the time of application and is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.
