Siena is a humble yet vibrant university town in Tuscany, arguably the most beautiful region of Italy. Relax in a café on the Piazza del Campo, a medieval square and public gathering space, and stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets while exploring the 17 contrade, or districts.
As one of the smaller cities where GlobalWorks offers internships, Siena offers a more familiar pace of life with an economy built on tourism and agriculture. Siena is an ideal place to experience medieval and modern Italian culture, food, art, architecture, and politics while interning with local Italians.
What is GlobalWorks?
GlobalWorks internships are personalized internship programs that bring you out of the country, and into the workplace. We connect academic study with real-world experiences by providing full-time international internship opportunities to UO students in various career fields. Working with local professional internship providers in locations around the world, we provide individualized placements for UO students. NOTE FOR SUMMER 2025:
For Summer 2025, only a limited number of placements are available for students to work in Siena. Students will select their top field preferences from the options above. From there, they will coordinate with our GEO Center in the region and be placed at one of two beautiful local estates, both certified organic farms with vineyards and olive groves. These estates also feature wildflowers, animals, a small farm, and a vegetable and herb garden. While students can indicate their preferred field, they will not be able to choose which vineyard they work at.
Please also note that students will need to commute to and from the vineyard. These commuting costs are not included in the program budget, so students should plan and pack accordingly. Depending on the location, transportation options include bus/walking or taxi.
