Program Overview

Students will also be expected to attend a few pre-departure meetings throughout winter term, the information for which they will receive after their acceptance. These meetings are required, and will be scheduled at a time when no students have class.

The London Theatre program is a Spring Quarter intensive study program offered every other Spring term. During the study term, you will attend live professional theatre performances, sometimes including mixed media concerts, opera, ballet, or modern dance. In addition to contemporary London theatre, you may elect to study performance with London theatre professionals, meet with guest speakers, and have ample free time to explore London’s museums and other historical sites. Finally, you will travel to Stratford-Upon-Avon, Bath, Stonehenge/Avebury, and Brighton. The program will be bi-sected with a week long break so that students may explore London and the United Kingdom, and pursue their own interests.

Scholarships: Applicants to this program have the option to apply for a program-specific scholarship. Award recipients are chosen based on academic merit, financial need, and overall quality of their essay.  Individual awards range, however to be considered, the Scholarship Essay found in the application must be completed by application deadline. Please refer to the Scholarship Essay instructions in the program application or speak with your GEO advisor for more details.

Faculty and Staff

The faculty director for the program is Tricia Rodley, Ph.D., Senior Instructor I for the University of Oregon Theatre Arts Department. As a teacher, Tricia Rodley tries to bring an awareness of unique life experiences into all student encounters. She asks herself every day how she can offer tools to help students become accountable risk-takers, creative problem-solvers, and critically-minded collaborators. As much as possible, she teaches to the individual by valuing lived experiences of identity that each student will bring into the embodied process of learning. As a theatre maker, she values experiential learning as well -- this is how we keep developing our craft!

Acting instruction is arranged and is conducted by teaching professionals from various London theatre schools. Local arrangements are made with the assistance of Ms. Jane Passes of Scholar Services (London).
