Program Overview

This program is only open to business majors.

The Copenhagen Business School (CBS) program provides the opportunity to enroll in undergraduate or graduate courses, taught in English, in subjects including business, economics, and related fields. CBS is a modern global business training center with state-of-the-art facilities at three urban campuses and an outstanding faculty with considerable business experience. CBS emphasizes group work that is meant to simulate real-world corporate projects, often in conjunction with multinational businesses that have offices in Copenhagen. Throughout the year, CBS hosts a variety of corporate visitors and "talent scouts" who hold presentations about their companies and recruit future employees from the CBS student population. The program offers graduate internships in entrepreneurship on a competitive basis.

The Copenhagen Business School is one of the three largest business schools in northern Europe. CBS has a vibrant urban environment, as classes and residences are dispersed throughout the city. Also, Denmark ranks among the highest bicycles per capita in the world. Copenhagen has 249 miles of bike paths and most people commute by bike.

Note for Danish or EU citizens: Copenhagen Business School cannot accept applications from UO students who are Danish or EU citizens for the fall, spring, or academic year programs.

The application process for this program is competitive: GEO staff will review your application materials, and a decision about your enrollment will not be made until after the application deadline. In some cases, an interview is required. If your program requires an interview, you will be contacted with further details about this process after the application deadline. Early applications are encouraged.

Acceptance will be based on a holistic review of your application. This includes a review of your GPA, transcripts (including courses taken and in-progress), any additional requirements or prerequisites (see section "Additional Requirements"), and the short statement. Some programs require a letter of recommendation. If a letter of recommendation is required, you will find more information in your GEO application portal.

If you are selected by GEO for the program, you will also need to complete a secondary application to your host university directly. Instructions will be provided after acceptance by GEO.

Academic Details

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student with a business focus, you will find rich opportunities for coursework at CBS. Choose from more than 50 courses in business disciplines including business law, finance, management, marketing, operations, organization, and strategy, as well as additional offerings in language, area and American studies, communication, and public policy, among others. If you are a graduate student, you can also take courses in advertising, entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility, and digital business. Courses rely heavily on group work, creating a built-in cross-cultural experience as you work alongside Danish and international students to complete projects.

In the fall and spring semesters, you will take four CBS courses. You will earn approximately 24 UO credits in either semester program. It is imperative that you discuss your plan of study and the applicability of CBS courses toward your UO degree carefully with your academic adviser before the application.

Students applying to this program are considered “freemovers” at CBS, rather than “exchange” students. What this means is that CBS gives exchange students first priority for course enrollment, so they will not be able to process your course request until after exchange students have signed up for classes. This means that you may not be able to sign up for the courses you want. It is very important to understand this and to be flexible with your course selection at CBS. You should speak with your academic advisor before applying to ensure that you have a plan for your UO academic progression. It may be very difficult to complete specific UO requirements at CBS.

CBS uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which is a workload-based system for measuring and comparing study results. The workload for a full-time CBS student is 30 ECTS credits per semester. ECTS credits are transferred to the UO at the rate of 1 ECTS credit = .75 quarter credits.

This is a program in which you will directly enroll in courses at one of the University of Oregon’s partner universities. These programs differ from other study abroad options and do not necessarily include significant on-site student support services, such as academic advising, health & counselling services, planned excursions or social events. Students most comfortable and successful in these types of programs typically have high levels of self-reliance, resourcefulness, and willingness to adapt to unfamiliar teaching styles and living arrangements.

Housing Description

Housing in Copenhagen is very difficult to find and can be expensive. This is particularly the case in the fall semester when CBS cannot help you find housing. . Students who participate in this program in the Fall Semester will need to arrange their own private accommodation. CBS is not able to provide assistance in finding housing in the Fall Semester. They can provide limited assistance in the Spring Semester but cannot guarantee housing placement.

In the fall semester, CBS cannot help you find housing, whereas in the spring, CBS will be able to assist you in finding housing, but cannot guarantee housing placement. Students that are unable to get CBS housing may be assisted with finding private housing if they submit a private housing application. The sooner this private housing application is submitted, the sooner CBS will be able to help you to find housing. Depending on when you submit your private housing application, it could take anywhere from 1-3 months for CBS to help you find housing, if not longer.
