International Business in Segovia, Spain

Program Overview

Spend 11 weeks in Segovia and develop a better understanding of how to work across different cultural, political, and linguistic backgrounds. The assortment of business classes instructed in English will allow you to learn about local business and economic perspectives and guidelines, international business management, and entrepreneurship. The program includes excursions to Huercasa (Spanish agri-food company), Madrid (visit Congress of Deputies as well as Santiago Bernabéu Stadium the home of Real Madrid),  La Granja de San Ildefonso, and Bodegas Herrero (winery) with paella culinary workshop in evening.

Segovia is a historical and picturesque city only 25 minutes by high-speed train away from Spain's capital, Madrid. Segovia may be an ancient city full of history, but there is nothing dull or stagnant about it. There is a lively cultural scene, as it is home to numerous writers, artists, and intellectual types. Many palaces, churches, and monasteries are now used for exhibitions, concerts, and other creative events. Segovia has been a popular study abroad destination for UO students for the last 30 years. Come see what makes this place so special all while learning important business skills!

The Classroom
Students will attend business classes designed exclusively for GEO students at GEO's Segovia Center. Local GEO instructors are experts in the business field. The central location of Segovia facilitates learning outside the classroom on excursions to neighboring sites.  Excursions are led by professors and are integrated into the courses, encouraging students to apply what they learn in the classroom to the sights around them.

Housing Description

You have two housing options, each with its own perks. You will be able to provide your preference, though we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate everyone in their first choice.

  1. Apartment: Apartments are fully furnished with beds, desks and a kitchen table and chairs.  Generally, there are 2 individual rooms per apartment, and you can expect to share an apartment with another GEO student. The kitchens are equipped with utensils, plates, glasses, cookware, an electronic oven, and electric stovetop. You will also receive two sets of linens, and each apartment has access to a washing machine and drying rack (dryers are very uncommon in Spain). Most apartments are close to the University of Valladolid campus and within a 15-minute walk from the GEO Segovia Center.  Students will pay less to GEO upfront but will need to budget more for additional meals.
  2. Host family: Living with a host family will help you experience the local culture of Spain. Homestays in Segovia are carefully selected to fit your needs and requests and are located within walking distance of the GEO center or near local bus lines. You are rarely placed in a home with another student, but if that is the case, you both will always have your own private room with a shared bathroom. Linens, towels, and light laundry are provided by your host. Immerse yourself into the daily life and routine of the household and experience Spanish cuisine and food culture as host families prepare all your meals. Culturally, mealtimes in Spain are a very important time for family and are very pleasant occasions. Most host families do not know English, so GEO recommends you learn a bit of Spanish before the program to better connect with your host family and others in the community.
