Program Overview

In this exchange program, you will enroll directly in classes at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) Campus Querétaro.  At the ITESM Querétaro you can study Business, Communications, Digital Art, Marketing, Accounting, Agriculture, Engineering, and Architecture. The ITESM Querétaro campus has been recognized as one of the best options to pursue studies in Latin America and offers the best University facilities in the region. ITESM Querétaro is a private university that enrolls approximately 7,000 undergraduate students. Its impressive campus includes classrooms equipped with multimedia technology, 120 specialized laboratories, a new Technology Park, gymnasium/auditorium, new residence halls, specialized buildings, and wireless internet connection for the entire campus. About 40% of all courses offered at the ITESM Querétaro are taught in English. In order for you to take classes in Spanish, you need to reach the high intermediate level (B2) on a Spanish placement test before your arrival. In addition to taking courses, you may enroll in a 5-credit internship course at a company or at a social organization. In addition to the regular classes offered to local students, you will be able to enroll in special classes designed for exchange students, such as Mexican Culture, six different levels of Spanish language, and Doing Business in Mexico.

Academic Details

The academic year at ITESM Querétaro is organized in two semesters. The first semester runs from early August to early December and the second semester from early January to early May. The university offers a comprehensive curriculum with courses available in several disciplines. International students can select courses from different disciplines or combine courses with internship hours. A full-time internship option with a company is also available.  The majority of Tec courses encompass 48 hours of face-to-face time in the classroom (3 hours a week during the semester). ITESM lecturers and professors tend to promote team projects, oral presentations, and active student participation in class. Homework is assigned on a regular basis. In order to pass a class, 80% classroom attendance is required.

A typical course load is 5-6 ITESM courses per semester.

Additional requirements
  • Completed WR 121 and 122 or 123 with grades of B- or higher
  • Spanish Level B2 (three 300-level Spanish classes or equivalent) if you wish to enroll in ITESM courses taught in Spanish
Application process

Applying for an exchange program involves 2 steps. First, you will complete the GEO application process and interview. Selection for this program is based on a review of your online written application, transcripts, recommendations, and completion of the interview process. After your initial application is complete, GEO will review it and select successful candidates for nomination to ITESM. Nominations are made in March for the fall semester and in September for the spring semester of the following year. 

Next, you will need to complete a secondary application for the host university. After being nominated by GEO, students will receive instructions regarding the secondary exchange application for ITESM. You will be asked to  complete an online application and provide documents such as your transcript, copy of passport, study plan, and a curriculum Vitae if applying for an internship. 

ITESM makes the final decision regarding acceptance into the program. The acceptance letter will also include information about registering for classes. 

Housing Description

The ITESM Querétaro campus offers the following housing options:

Homestay - Immerse yourself in the Mexican lifestyle and language when you share a home with a local family. Costs vary, but usually include a shared room with another international student, three meals a day, housekeeping, laundry facilities and utilities.

Residence Halls – ITESM Querétaro has residential housing, except it is seldom available for exchange students. The waiting period for a dorm room can be over a year, which is why most exchange students live with a host family or in apartments. 

Independent Housing - Off-campus options exist and the International Programs office is able to refer you to various housing agencies with locations close to campus.
